Global Bio-chem Technology, a joint venture 75-percent owned by a Chinese corn processor, is planning to spend 1000 million Yuan (HK$940 million) to build a 200-kilotonnes-per-year plant for making polyols using patented corn-based technology from US-based International Polyol Chemicals, its minority partner in the venture.
A pilot operation producing 10 ktpa of polyol is already operating, the report says, adding that the new unit should come on stream in 2006.
