Basel, Switzerland–Ciba Specialty Chemicals has developed new Terasil W-EL disperse dyes, especially for dyeing polyester blends with elastane. The Swiss group says the new dyes “combine excellent fastness with maximum reliability in processing at lower dyeing temperatures.”According to Peter Otto, global head of marketing in Ciba Specialty Chemicals’ Textile Effects Segment, “Polyester/elastane blends are growing in popularity, especially for sportswear, but processing them can be a challenge.” These new dyes “are applied in a way that minimises problems such as loss of stretch, fabric snagging and uneven appearance,” Otto added. The materials give results that are highly reproducible under normal processing conditions, Cibs claims. Very high exhaustion and even build, ensuring excellent levelness and a uniform appearance, are additional features of the dyes, launched at the recent ITMA Asia event. Also, the dyes can be easily removed from the elastane fibre, preventing subsequent bleeding and therefore ensuring high fastness, claims Ciba, in its statement on the new dyeing material.”
