Leverkusen, Germany – Covestro has launched a new range of matt Platilon TPU films for medical equipment.
Called Platilon, the films were developed for applications including wound care, surgical drapes and wearable patches. They are the first blown films with a very high matt level, Covestro said.
Previously, Covestro added, a high level of matt was only available with cast films.
In addition, the material is suitable for use in biometric sensors containing thermocouples for temperature measurement or pulse rate monitors, the firm added. This could widen the materials’ use into the consumer market, it believes.
Gerd Buschel, a Covestro films expert, said that the material enables patches which ‘cling gently to the skin, are breathable and hypoallergenic.’ This makes patches made from the material suitable for long-term wear.
