Wuhai, Inner Mongolia – Dongyuan Scien-Tech in September started construction of its 200kT/year 1,4-BDO facility, the second phase of its 300kT/year BDO plant, according to the local government.
Located in the Wuda Industrial Park, Wuhai, Inner Mongolia, the project’s Phase One with CNY 6.1b ($915m) investment started operation in 2014, employing 2,000 staff.
Phase Two with CNY 8.3b investment is scheduled to be completed in 2018. It will create 2,500 new jobs with CNY 9b annual production value.
Both phases use the Reppe method for BDO production purchased from Invista.
By 2020 when the project’s Phase Three with capacity for other chemicals is finished, Dongyuan will have the world’s largest site for BDO and downstream deep-processed products, raking in CNY43.3b annual revenue, said the local government website.
