Dow retains force majeure on MDI

By David Reed, UT EditorStade, Germany-Dow Europe GmbH has retained the 4 Jan declared force majeure in respect of supply of MDI (methylene diphenyl diisocyanate), from its 190 kilotonne-per-annum unit here. Although the plant came back on stream, as of 11 Jan, and is “running well,” a spokesperson said the supply restrictions remain in place while the company deals with problems of order backlogs. The shutdown was a result of “unexpected technical problems,” a statement from Dow said, adding that the firm would use “all commercially reasonable means” to address the problem. The statement issued indicated that this could take until some time in February.”
