By Liz White, UT staff Lemförde, Germany-Elastogran Group and South-African company CHC Urethane Products (Pty) Ltd are to set up a polyurethane system house in South Africa. The company-to be called CHC Elastogran-will be a joint venture between BASF unit Elastogran. It will be responsible for producing and distributing PU systems and PU raw materials in South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa. CHC Elastogran, based in Elandsfontein, Johannesburg, will employ some 50 people. Andrew Bailey will be the managing director. The JV is subject to the approval of the competition authorities, said a statement from the partners. By founding CHC Elastogran we are continuing our successful strategy of a customer-oriented market approach by creating independent, decentralised PU System Houses,” said Dr Helmut Rödder, spokesperson for the Elastogran board, in the statement. South Africa’s polyurethanes market represents high growth potential which will greatly help to strengthen our competitiveness in the international market,” Rödder added. CHC Elastogran will have the advantage of having direct access to essential raw materials,” said Neil Hellmann, group managing director, CHC Group.With the combined R&D and technological capabilities of its partners, this puts the JV in a strong position for growth into the future” he added. “
