Naberezhnye Chelny, Tatarstan – Haier’s 500,000 unit/year refrigerator plant in Russia’s Tatarstan Republic started operation on April 22, according to a company press release.
The project, built in Tatarstan’s Kama Industrial Park as UTECH-polyurethane.com reported at the time, has received $39m investment and an additional $16m will be pumped into theprocurement of components and research facilities by the end of June.
“Tatarstan is one of the most prospective Russian regions in terms of economic development, technologies and innovations,” said the rotating president of Haier Group Liang Haishan at the opening ceremony.
Currently employing 250 staff, the new plant, 240 km (150 miles) east of Kazan, is expected to have a 500 headcount and create 1,200 more jobs in local support industries by 2017.
Its capacity will rise from 250,000 unit/year in the first phase rising to 500,000 when the second phase is completed, selling to Russia, countries in the Eurasia Customs Union and several other European countries.
”This new manufacturing base is the first major Russian-Chinese project in a non-energy area. We are very proud that we managed to create all the necessary conditions in the region to attract such hi-tech companies as Haier,” said Tatarstan’s president Rustam Minnihanov in the press release.
