St Augustin, Germany — Hennecke has introduced a machine line that can handle abrasive colour systems and quick colour changes when coating injection moulded components.
Called the Colour Line Multi-Connect, the plug-and-play system allows ‘fast and clean colour changing’ for surface moulding with polyurethane and polyurea, said the firm.
The new machine makes it possible to use ‘coloured polyurethane systems to flood injection moulded components. Through the use of different colours and effect pigments, such as metallic flakes, there are almost no design limits’, said Hennecke.
This is possible because of the systematic distribution of the isocyanate and colour processing in different units, said the company in a release.
It added that the Colour Line unit is designed to be installed as a stationary isocyanate unit on the injection moulding machine. This is used with the firm’s Multi Connect colour module with its own heater.
The Multi Connect is designed with a compact mobile carriage which can provide up to seven colour modules at the same time. Each colour module can be undocked from the parking station, moved to the isocyanate station and connected. The isocyanate station then controls the colour module, Hennecke said.
The colour modules are equipped with their own Hennecke type MN 8 MC mix head. ‘This ensures that each colour circulates in its own system and colour mingling cannot occur when changing colours,’ the firm said. Hennecke added that a colour change can be done without cleaning in under 15 minutes.
The two-part Colour Line and Multi Connect system allows great layout flexibility and, because the system is modular, can be easily expanded.
Hennecke said that it expects to see the system being used in the automotive and consumer goods sectors.
