By Patrick Raleigh, UT On-line news editorBonn, Germany-Hennecke GmbH was among the winners at the Society of Plastics Engineers’ 8th Automotive Division Award 2003. The award recognised the PU machinery supplier’s role in the production of a new carbon fibre reinforced plastics (CFRP) roof for BMW AG. The application, for the BMW M3 CSL, required a lightweight structure with good crash resistance, anticorrosion properties and a Class A finish, said a 21 Oct Hennecke statement. To make the roof, Hennecke developed, what it claims is, the world’s first highly automated production line for CFRP body components, at BMW’s site in Landshut, Germany. The process employs a Hennecke HT 80 foaming machine to manufacture of parts in closed moulds by resin transfer moulding. “
