Charlotte, North Carolina — A new heavy duty polyurethane-based adhesive is at the heart of the squeak-free AdvanTech Subfloor Assembly from Huber Engineered Woods.
The system combines the adhesive with strong, stiff and moisture-resistant subfloor panels and deformed fasteners to give a powerfully bonded panel-to-joist assembly. The adhesive helps eliminate differential movement between the panels and the joists, giving a quieter floor.
The foam adhesive, applied via a gun applicator, collapses into a gel to fill gaps for a firm bond, even on irregular surfaces. The company said the spray-on formula gives eight times more coverage than traditional caulk, and the polyurethane bond exceeds ASTM D-3498 adhesive standards.
“The joist-to-subfloor assembly is so solid, it acts as a single unit and increases floor stiffness overall, which is key in eliminating squeaks between panels and joists,” said Jason Darling, general manager of AdvanTech products.
The system, which comes with a 10-year squeak-free guarantee, was launched at the NAHB International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas in January.
