Houston, Texas — NCI Building Systems’ sales rose 9.9% to $ 462.4m in Q3 2016 compared to $ 420.8m in 2015’s third quarter.
The figure represented an 11.6% improvement in underlying tonnage volumes, the firm said.
Gross profit increased 27% to $ 128m in Q3 2016 compared to the comparable quarter in 2015 with a net income increase of 229% to $ 23.6m from $ 7.2m in Q3 2015.
Adjusted EBITDA increased 51.4% to $ 57.8m in Q3 2016.
Chairman and ceo Norman Chambers described Q3 2016 as “another quarter of strong performance with year-over-year growth in our revenues, gross margins and adjusted EBITDA.”
He said the firm had seen “modest growth in non-residential construction with NCI’s performance significantly outpacing our markets.”
The firm said third party sales in the buildings segment increased to $ 175.5m in the third quarter from $ 172.2 m in the prior year quarter, “primarily due to increased volumes offset by the pass-through of lower steel cost.”
Operating income increased 36.2% to $ 19.6m in the current quarter, compared to $ 14.4m in Q3 2015.
The Components segment generated $ 256.2m in third-party sales during the quarter, an increase of 15.4% from $ 222 m in Q3 2015, with strength in both the traditional metal component product lines and the insulated metal panel products. Operating income increased 120.2% to $ 37.5m in Q3 2016 compared to $ 17 m in Q3 2015.
Third party sales in the Coatings segment were $ 30.7m, a 15.3% increase from $ 26.6m in Q3 2015, with an operating income of $ 8.7m, up 59% on 2015 Q3’s reported $ 5.5m operating income.
