By David Reed, UT EditorMadrid-The Repsol YPF Directors’ Committee has approved a Euro 18.6-million ($23-million) investment to expand the ethylene production capacity of its Sines, Portugal cracker by 34 kilotonnes per annum to 410 ktpa. The expansion of the cracker is one of the biggest investments carried out at the complex and demonstrates Repsol YPF’s commitment to developing the site, a statement from the firm emphasised.The move is part of a Repsol Polymers Development Plan for the petrochemical complex at Sines aimed at improving the site’s prospects for the future. The expansion work is planned to take 18 months, with the new capacity scheduled to come on stream after following the scheduled shutdown in October 2006.The project has been designed to allow future expansion.”
