Sartomer expands in Japan

By David Reed, UT EditorExton, Pennsylvania-Global speciality chemicals manufacturer Sartomer Co. has acquired full ownership of Kayaku Sartomer Co. Ltd, its 12-year old Japanese joint venture with Nippon Kayaku Co., Ltd, of Tokyo. The operation will be renamed as Sartomer Japan, Inc. and will continue to develop applications for its monomers and oligomers-including hydroxy-terminated polybutadiene materials used in making polyurethane elastomers. The new company will operate from 1 September under the direction of Masa Fukuda, the company’s general manager for Japan.”Our joint venture with Nippon Kayaku has been a success. It’s now time for Sartomer to establish its own independent network in Japan,” said David Long, senior vice president of finance and Asia for Sartomer, in a 26 July statement.”We’re grateful to the management of Nippon Kayaku for all of their cooperation and support over the past twelve years. Thanks to their hard work, Sartomer’s presence in Japan has grown every year, and we’re ready to strike out on our own,” his statement continued. “It’s the natural next step in our long-term strategy, which is to increase our global presence as a major supplier of high-quality, technically advanced monomers and oligomers,” Long added.Sartomer also announced the appointment of Toshiya Sugimoto as technical manager in Japan. He will work directly with Sartomer’s customers to develop new and innovative applications, the statement concluded.”
