By Liz White, UT staffNorth Haven, Connecticut-New England Urethane (NEU) has introduced a new high-productivity thermoplastic polyurethane compound called NeuSoft. The material is designed for applications needing soft touch and/or overmoulding and can be processed by injection moulding or extrusion, says the New Haven-headquartered compounding firm. NEU said the major advantage of the 50-65 Shore A hardness TPU is its good processability, with no stickiness or tack. It is available as translucent or pre-coloured pellets, in amounts ranging from as little as 25-50 lb up to 1000 pounds. Features of NeuSoft compounds include “excellent tear strength and the ability to be processed at lower temperatures than most other TPUs currently on the market,” the firm said. The compounds have a broad melt temperature range, predictable processing and less sensitivity to moisture and temperature. The firm said the material is not currently suitable for medical uses.NEU, founded in 1989, calls itself “a leading North American producer of smooth-running, custom-compounded engineering plastic and polyurethane compounds, serving customers around the globe.” “
