Luoyang, Henan – Liming Research Institute of Chemical Industry announced in April 2014 it has completed the development of new polyurethane materials designed for use in load-bearing wheels.
The new materials have a 120℃ operating temperature compared with a 80℃ operating temperature for typical PU materials, and also have a 20% lower tread temperature under the same load condition. This is the first time a Chinese company has developed such high-performance elastic PU,Liming said.
During the research, Liming analysed defects in the current synthesis process used by Chinese firms for specialty diisocyanate prepolymers and developed polyol oligomers with a special structure as well as specialty diisocyanate prepolymers including 1,5-NDI (naphthalene diisocyanate) with storage stability, said the institute.
The new polyurethane has been used since June 2013 in the wheels of track-laying vehicles for high-speed railroad, high load-bearing wheels in forklifts and other heavy-duty equipment as well as high-speed, high wear-resistant wheels in sports equipment.
