Zibo, Shandong – Butian New Materials Technology is planning to set up new facilities for CFC-free blowing agents and related products at its existing site.
The project has CNY 670m ($101m) investment earmarked, and is slated to begin construction by the end of August, said local authorities’ website. Its capacity breaks down as follows:
- 100kT/year blowing agents;
- 3m sqm/year polyurethane insulation panels; and
- 50kT/year polyether polyol systems.
Butian licensed the blowing agent’s technology from China’s Shandong University of Technology for CNY 500m in 2017. The license gives Buitan exclusive rights outside the US and Canadian markets for 20 years.
The company is already operating a 5kT/year pilot trial for the blowing agent, and recently started exporting to the US.
In June, the company received approval from Shandong’s provincial authorities to set up a fully owned subsidiary in Chicago. The company said this will be to sell blowing agent, flame retardant polyether polyol and polyether polyol systems.
