Wuhai, Inner Mongolia – Dongyuan Scien-Tech, a BDO maker based in the Wuda Industrial Park, Wuhai, began a trial run for the first phase of its 1,4-BDO integrated project in April.
The project, with a 104kT/year capacity, has an RMB5.5bn ($887m) total investment. It also includes 720kT/year calcium carbide capacity and a 4×50MW back pressure turbine. It is expected to generate RMB6bn annual production value when in full operation.
The project’s second phase – with a 208kT/year capacity for 1,4-BDO, a 100kT/year capacity for PTMEG, an 80kT/year capacity for spandex 40D, a 60kT/year capacity for high-performance PU resin and other facilities, is scheduled to start in August, 2014.
Phase two has RMB11.4bn earmarked and is expected to have RMB16.4bn production value when completed.
Dongyuan Scien-Tech was set up in 2008 and is planning to become the world’s largest BDO manufacturing base. It claims to be the only company in Inner Mongolia that uses the Reppe method for BDO production, which was purchased from Invista.
