Dusseldorf, Germany — Adhesive Technology sales at Henkel were up by 0.6% in the first half of 2019 compared with the first half of 2018. They were at EUR 4.7bn.
Compared with the first half of 2018, EBIT in the division, which is where the company’s reactive polyurethane systems are housed, was lower by 0.2% EBIT was EUR 825 in the first half of 2019.
Discussing the second quarter, Henkel said that sales were flat in comparison with the second quarter of 2018. There were slight declines in Adhesives for Consumers, craftsman and building area. They were also down in Electronics, General Industry, Transport and Metal segments.
Looking ahead to the second half, Henkel said it expects the Adhesives Technology division to keep sales at the same level as they were in 2018 ±1%.
Company wide sales were EUR 10.1bn the first half of 2019.This is higher by 1.1% than the same period in 2018.
EBIT across the business fell 4.1% and hit EUR 825m in the first half of 2019.
Henkel said that the world economy grew by 3% in the first half of 2019 compared with 2018. And North America, a key market, grew by the same rate. Asia grew by 5%. But Organic sales in the adhesives business fell by 1%, below the industrial production index. IHS Markit, put the industrial production index growth at 1% in the period.
