Munich, Germany – KraussMaffei demonstrated a quick change multi-component mix-head which is efficient for large or small colour quantities in Munich on 6 June 2018.
The company said that its MK 10/15-UVP-2K+4 multicolour mix head allows up to four colours to be metered directly into the mixing chamber independently of each other.
The colours are separated but available in the mixing head at all times. This means users can skip colour change and change over in real time production, the company said.
‘The mixing head is suitable for all applications in which PU processors face the challenge of providing components in relatively small quantities in numerous colours,’ said Sebastian Schmidhuber, head of reaction process machinery development at the company.
The new transfer mix head makes it possible to change colour from shot to shot without interrupting production. This increases flexibility and productivity, the German company added.
In the mix head, the polyol component is split into two and introduced through two nozzles into the mix chamber. Two different dyes can be introduced at each polyol nozzle. Metering occurs on all the streams at the same time so there is no dye carry-over shot-to-shot, said the company. The company added that it is possible to meter the dye at relatively low pressure.
The advance was unveiled at the company’s Competence Forum. This was held on the 50th anniversary of KraussMaffei’s entry into polyurethane machinery manufacture. Reaction Process Machinery is one of the three parts of the company.
