Seattle, Washington – A combination of polyurethane injection moulding and direct-attach capabilities are being used with foot scanning technology to produce individually tailored running shoes by Brooks.
Brooks is using HP Fitstation technology in its Levitate RS brand shoes, available from mid 2018. These are made with midsoles produced after the runner’s foot is scanned in 3D to give dynamic gait analysis and foot pressure measurements.
Superfeet then uses Desma PU shoe injection moulding technology to produce a shoe with a personalised midsole containing zones that are tuned to ensure the runner stays in their preferred motion pattern, and receives the running experience they desire.
John Rauvola, Superfeet’s president, said this commercial process will change what people expect from their running experience. ‘It is also an important step in making a positive difference in people’s lives by delivering the best underfoot support possible,’ he said. ‘It is the beginning of the individualised fit revolution.’
