Convent, Louisiana – Wanhua has confirmed that Convent, 43 miles (70km) south of Baton Rouge, will be the location of its 400kT/year MDI plant. The town is located on the east bank of the Mississippi.
The company confirmed that it is investing $.125 bn in the facility.
Governor Jon Bel Edwards said: ‘We welcome Wanhua to Louisiana and look forward to the company’s contribution to our workforce and economy.’
Weiqi Hua is CEO, Wanhua Chemical US Operations. Speaking over the weekend, he said: ‘ Our goal is to ensure our supply security and flexibility.’
He also promised ‘higher-level services that customers expect from us’.
Hua said that local employment will be a feature of the plant during construction and operation phases. He added that Wanhua will also train and develop staff.
The company announced that Louisiana as the location for the project in April. Originally, the project was to be an MDI splitter and it was to be located on the US Gulf coast.
